Astronomy Dates, December 2012

3rd – Jupiter at Opposition. Jupiter will be at its closest to Earth and fully illuminated by the Sun and easily seen in the sky.  This is the best time to photograph Jupiter.

13th – New Moon

13th, 14th – Geminids Meteor Shower. One of the best meteor showers to watch as it produces up to 60 multicoloured meteors per hour in its peak. Best viewed after midnight to the East.

21st – December Solstice. The first day of Winter in the Northern Hemisphere and the first day of Summer in the Southern Hemisphere.

28th – Full Moon
